Perhaps the biggest difference
is all players can see who has joined a proposal, who has
been invited to a private proposal, and the ranks of everyone
involved. Before this information was not there and made
joining a game a bit of a lucky dip as to who you would
play with. Now that is a thing of the past and you have
much more control over who you want to play with.
Problems with Java; both Windows and Mac
Because of
recent changes in browser and java software (not on our
part but from some very big companies) some problems have
cropped up. If, for example, you are using IE on Windows,
you might not be able to see the Games Room.
Solution;
go to www.java.com
and get the latest upgrade. This should sort out most problems.
Unfortunately
if you have a Mac using Mac OS X, you can't use IE any longer.
And, apparently, there will be no new versions of IE. So
we recommend you use Safari.
Also you
may need to make sure you're using the latest Java 5. Navigate
on your hard disk to > Applications > Utilities >
Java > J2SE 5.0 and run the Java Preferences program
to make sure it's set up properly.
If you still
have any problems, contact us and we'll sort it out for
you.
And, in any
case, soonish we will be upgrading our server software to
Java 5. Which means Java 5 will become the minimum requirement.
So if you're still running Java 1.4.x then perhaps it is
time to upgrade.
Spam Update
We've had some remarks about
players using the Buddy Email system to Spam their Buddies.
Well, what can we say. We set this whole
system up to be "self policing". We don't want
to "forbid" people to send out information because
we like to think people are, by and large, nice. We even
think some of the information sent out can be informative.
But of course
some people might not see it this way, and others might
abuse the friendship.
All we can
say is if you get emails from a member you consider spam,
take him off your "buddy list." And then serenity
will reign again in the galaxy. 'Cause we really don't want
to get into discussions or arguments over stuff like this.
Not enough time and too many good games to play.
WWII game will soon be available, in cludgy
form, to play
That's right, trendsetters. The
WWII game is on the operating table as we speak, having
the bolts put into its neck. Soon our new creature will
live.
And to give you all a taste,
so you go mad, tell all your friends and bring them along,
kicking and screaming, as soon as it lurches into life we
will deploy it onto the system.
However, don't expect it to be
all singing and dancing. It truly will be Beta release with
things still to be figured out. But it will work. And whilst
in Beta form it will be free. Naturally, there won't be
many scenarios to play.
But most of what will be in the
later release will be there; good old World War Two punch
ups with infantry, tanks, artillery bombardments, anti-tank
units, minefields (might miss Beta). Even aerial bombardments
and fighter-bombers are coming.
I know we have been saying this
for a while BUT I can let you know I have actually seen
the test version on the computer. Yes, it does actually
exist and we haven't been making this up for however long
we have been talking about it.
So there.
That's all for now. See you next time.
Regards,
From Chris, the editor, and every one at Tower Games.
