We now have a "Buddy List". Yahh!!
What does this mean?
Now you can play against those you specifically want to
play. If someone is on your Buddy List you can make a game
proposal that only they can see and join.
What this stops, let's say,
is you want to play a game with Fred. So you put up a proposal.
But before Fred can join it, Sam joins it. Then you say,
"But I didn't want to play Sam. I wanted to play Fred."
The Buddy List stops that. All you have to do is select
"Private Proposal," and then Fred from your list
of Buddies, and then Sam will not be able to even see the
proposal.
There is also a "block list." Hey, you might like
someone but sometimes you'd just rather not play with them.
So now if you put up a "Public Proposal" you can
ask the system to not show it to Sam, for example.
There is even a permanent "Block List" for those
people you really just don't get along with. The internet
is a big place and this happens sometimes. It's human nature.
So now everyone can play with exactly those they want to
and not be worried about those they'd rather not play with.

List page.
Enjoy!
New Battle; Gaines's Mill
The famous battle where McClellan
was "spooked" by Lee and ordered the Army of the
Potomac to vacate the Peninsular (or was that "lift
their skirts and run for it"?).
On the 27nd June, 1862, Gen. Lee, with 65,000 men, attacked
the 5th Corps of Gen. Porter. Although it was a tactical
loss for the rebs it was an enormous strategic victory (because
of McClellan).
It is perhaps our most brutal battle to date, although not
our biggest. It involves the single largest assault in any
of our games. Don't expect to do anything fancy other than
"Go get 'em, lads!". Terrific fun.
And, yes, the Union can win this. In fact they can "whip
'em"! However, you have to think about what you're
doing.
Future Battles coming
Atlanta is the next on the drawing
board, where Gen. Hood got his men butchered and handed
Atlanta to Gen. Sherman.
Function in development
No one likes having to work with
a dead army only half way through a battle after your opponent
has crushed it. Wouldn't you rather say, "You win.
Let's start again?"
Well, that's how we feel. So we're working on a "Quit
the field" function. This is basically where one side
gives a general retreat order to his entire army. The game
will end and victory points awarded.
Scheduled times are now gone
They worked well but people didn't
use them. So they are gone. The Buddy List is much more
convenient.
Hassles with Java 5
We have been contacted by a number
of members who say they are having problems with their browsers
and games freezing. We have tracked this down to problems
with Java 5, the latest release from Sun. We don't know
why but rest assured we are working on it as fast as we
can. When this is fixed these little problems should disappear
(famous last words :)) ).
That's all for now. See you next time.

From Chris, the editor, and every one at Tower Games.
