November 2004
Time once again for our small newsletter.
Announcing; More Solitaire Play.
That's right. Now you can play
Line of Muskets any time you like against the computer.
It has taken quite a while to develop but we now have an
AI player.
Now don't expect it to play like a TJ Jackson or RE Lee.
But it will give you a good clean fight. We have also developed
it so it doesn't do the same thing everytime you play it.
This is one of the great drawbacks with most AI players
in computer games; their predicability (and it doesn't cheat
either).
Currently two of the token battles have the Solo option
available; Brices' Cross Roads and Bull Run.
In order to play them go to the games room, select NEW for
a game and select the 1 player Bull Run or Brice's Cross
Roads.
So now you don't have to wait for other members to turn
up.
Of course, don't forget playing other humans is always more
challenging (it's just about impossible to program an AI
to be sneaky or crafty).
New Battles are here.
Some of you have already seen
our new battles; Gettysburg (Day 1) and Brice's Cross Roads
(NB Forrest's greatest victory).
Gettysburg can have up to 4 players but also plays very
well as a two player.
The Solo option for Gettysburg is also coming.
Emailing other players that you have a "saved
game" with.
If you have a saved game, and
you would like to finish it, simply open up the game with
the "Rejoin Game" function. Look at the chat window.
There is a tab there with "email" on it. Click
on that to send an email to anyone or everyone involved
in the game.
This makes it easier than ever before to get back together
with other players to finish off games.
Strategy Articles.
Have you ever wondered
how to play Line of Muskets better? Do you know how the
great generals won their battles? Or lost their battles?
Strategy and Tactics is more an artform than it is a science.
Too many battles have been lost that "should not"
have been. And vica-versa. What is it that makes one general
great and another poor?
Well, we might be able to help you. We have started up a
new section on Strategy Articles where, hopefully, you will
find some hints and tips as to how to be a better strategist
and tactician. They won't tell you exactly what to do but
more what the concepts are behind certain methods of fighting
battles.
Our first article is called "To flank or not to flank".
If you would like to read it please click the link.
In the future we shall certainly be adding more articles.
That's all for now. See you on the battlefield.
Regards,
From Chris, the editor, and every one at Tower Games.
