Hi Everyone,
Time to let you all know what is the latest and the best
at Tower Games. Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings.
Perhaps, in time, this little newsletter might get a bit
bigger and have more pretty pictures. But at the moment
it seems to do the job. By all means if anyone has any comments
about this or would like something added here, or anything
actually, please pass them along.
Antietam challenge (update)
Okay. So far we have managed
to have one battle of the Antietam Challenge. Sad to say,
Dan and I lost, but not by as much as everone might have
thought. Jefwfunk1, Monty and Mitch gave us a quite a doing
over, but not without a bloody nose. So they all received
their ten free tokens (as announced in the last newsletter)
and left very happy.
However, not wanting to accept our defeat because of our
tactical incompetence but due to unforseen things that had
nothing to do with us (ha, ha. We got beaten fair and square),
Dan and I had another look at the historical battle. And
we made a few changes to the Antietam scenario, but only
minor ones. The two most important ones are;
6th Corps didn't take part in the real battle except for
one or two brigades. So they are delayed a little bit to
reflect that.
Now units coming onto the board
will NOT come on in march column when enemy are close by
(so now you can't sit in front of an entry hex waiting to
blast them). If enemy are close the units will deploy into
battle formation and come on, ready to fight.
Last but not least, Dan and I
want to do more of these challenges. However, after having
a few hiccups when trying to get some others started, we
are now putting a proper "game joining" mechanism
together which will make this a whole lot easier. When that's
done, then the "challenges" will start again.
And the main point is, the Confederates can win Antietam.
So get yar guns in line and come shoot some Billy Yank.
New Playtesting program (update)
The new playtesting program worked.
So it stays, although there might be a couple of modifications.
And stay tuned; as fast as my hot little fingers can go
more battles are being put together. The first one is Wilson's
Creek, a small punch up in Missouri. And the 2nd Day of
Gettysburg, scrambling over big rocks and up two small hills
that everyone seemed to desperately want on the 2nd of July,
1863.
New Function Coming; Player Ranking List
This shall be a nice one for
everyone out there. As we speak our programming department
is putting this together. Basically if you have two or more
rank points, your name will appear on the list, showing
where you are on the rank table.
On this note;
Congratulations to "jefwfunk1".
He is our new, and only, rank
6. All bow down and tremble in fear at his scintillating
musketry, majestic artillery bombardments and scything flanking
movements.
Sorry. Got carried away there.
Anyway, if you want to learn the game the hard way, search
him out and give him a game. It will be fun but you might
not be able to sit down for a week after the whipping he
dishes out to you.
Jef has also been kind enough to write up his thoughts about
Tower Games, what he likes about it and why he plays the
game. If you want to read what he says, click here.
(wait for it, wait for it)
Our Inaugural Competition of Line of Muskets
is on the way.
That's right, ladies and gents.
A competition program is in the pipe line. All players,
big and small, far and wide, will be able to pit their wits
and tactical brilliance against each other to find out who
is the "Line of Muskets King of the World". Eventually
we may even have prize money involved for the conquering
champions.
So, for those who want to get involved and put your name
in lights, I highly recommend you get practicing. It is
probably some six months away, which gives you just enough
time to get ready.
And, don't forget, and you and your friends will both get
three free tokens. Plus it will get more opponents for everyone
to play.
Regards,
From Chris, the editor, and every one at Tower Games.
