Hello there,
fellow mad wargamers.
Professional Wargaming, perhaps for the
first time ever, is now possible.
Tower Games launches tournaments with prize
money.
US$100 prize money in inaugural Tower Games
tournament.
Perhaps our most exciting news
for some time is that today Tower Games is starting its
very first ever tournament in Line of Muskets with prize
money. and a whole bunch of other exciting stuff.
The winner of the event will
be known throughout the land as "Grand Master of
Line of Muskets, Evil Dark Lord of All. Bow down and tremble
before him." Well, perhaps not. But certainly the
"Inaugural Line of Muskets Champion."
And they get (at least) US$100
prize money., more depending on if absolutely
hordes of people go mad and enter.
If you want to know more go
to our new Tournaments
page. And if you want to register for it send me
an email.
From now on we shall be running
tournaments on a regular basis. So if you want to get
good at these games, so good you might one day be able
to do this for a living instead of going to whatever job
you have that sucks, well, you better get practicing.
As mentioned on the Tournaments
page, our short term goal is to run a tournament with
US$1,000 prize money up for grabs for the winner,
and other prizes for place-getters.
We'll also be doing a Lightning
War tournament too.
Line of Muskets; sneaky people jumping
on entry hexes.
We know that people like to
play games and like to win. And so, if we silly people
miss something that can be exploited, well, it will be.
This is not to say that whatever someone does to win a
game is wrong, but sometimes it is, shall we say, a bit
sharp.
We received quite a few remarks
of a bad habit that had taken hold, that of players, knowing
the entry hexes of enemy units, lying in wait say, 1 or
2 hexes from an entry hex. And going "bam" as
units entered. Naturally this made for not-very-fun games.
In case you are wondering where
and what battle, ambushing Longstreet in Gaines's Mill
is perhaps the best example. Also jumping on the Union
troops in Champion Hill who come on the southern end of
the map.
Anyway, I say, tee hee, it
won't work anymore. There is a new rule in the game that
if troops coming on the board sense units close by they
will find another hex, somewhere on the side of the map
that is at least five hexes clear of enemy units. And
come on there.
Suffice to say, this means
the ambusher will become the ambushee for those who continue
to do this.
Lightning War scenario; Bastogne.
Yes, folks, that's right. The
Battle of Bastogne is the first "pay to play"
scenario being put together for Lightning War.
The poor americans freezing in fox holes and the germans
looking for petrol. Coming out soon.
Just one thing to be aware
of. We have tried to make this game as realistic
as possible. This does not mean that if you have a really
big tank you get to kill everyone. Because that is not
how it worked in WWII (though many wargames work in just
this way).
If you have a big tank you
can certainly do a lot of damage, but annoying infantry
can, and will, upset you if you get too close to them.
So that means you need infantry support to go with your
big tank.
Anyway, you'll sort it out.
And get ready because the scenarios to follow after Bastogne
will be Normandy ones. Then we'll probably have a tournament.
So get ready.
That's all for now. See you
next time.
Regards,
From Chris, the editor, and every one at Tower Games.
