Line of Muskets civil war java game
Line of Muskets civilwar java game

Historical Background

The American Civil War started in 1861 with the attack on Fort Sumnter, and went until 1865 when General Lee surrendered at Appomatox Court House. By the time the war ended, more than 1 million Americans had become casualties in the first modern war.

The American Civil War changed the landscape of the USA forever.

Overview

Line of Muskets is designed to put you in the "seat" of a general during the American Civil War. You have to make the same strategic and tactical decisions that the generals in the civilwar battles had to make. Keeping a solid line of troops is good, concentrating your artillery fire is good, ripping your opponents flank apart is good.

Of course, things like leaving a hole in your line is bad. Letting your opponent outflank you is bad.

And in the multi-player games issues like communication amongst your side becomes extremely important, just like in the real Civil War.

If you want to learn more about how to play the game, reading the strategy articles is an excellent place to start, as are the rules and tutorial (link below). And below if you click on any of the battle previews you will get some very good tips on how to play a particular battle.
